Ways To Donate Please be aware that you need to fill out an adoption form in order to be approved for one of our Treasures. You will also need to pay an adoption fee which ranges from typically about $750 to $1000 depending on the horse. Specific details on possible other expenses are in the adoption form. Something we should all think about… I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do, but the grace of God, I will do. By Edward Everett Hale

Saddlebred Rescue Mission Statement
It is the mission of Saddlebred Rescue, Inc. to educate the public on concerns facing the Saddleseat breeds and save the unwanted horses from slaughter and return them to useful, productive lives. .
Each year many Saddlebreds will be sold through various means. The well-meaning owner often believes that their horse is headed to a loving new home. Although, this is true in most cases, a frightening number of Saddlebreds and Morgans end up on trucks slaughter bound to Canada and Mexico. Any horse is fair game for slaughterhouses: foals, pregnant mares, pleasure and show horses. With processed horse meat bringing over $50 a pound there is a huge market. .
Our goal is to make a difference by educating the public, the horse industry, and the animal protection network who is becoming more involved in the prevention of cruelty to horses, providing alternatives/services to the dealers and auction houses, and the rehabilitation and re-homing of rescues. The re-homing is focused on placing horses in those homes that will not only help the individual horse but the horse industry as a whole such as in lesson programs. We define industry as anyone from the farmer raising the feed to veterinarians, farriers, tack shops, trainers, boarding facilities, horse shows and their associated charities etc. Saddlebred Rescue will assist in the placement and care of rescued horses primarily the saddle seat breeds as well as the abused and neglected from animal law enforcement agencies. On a case by case basis horses can be donated to Saddlebred Rescue by the owner if we feel the situation warrants. An example is death of the owner or a horse that can be immediately placed and not take the place of a horse slaughter bound but to actually support those that were slaughter bound through their adoption fee. We believe every Saddlebred, Morgan, and Hackney deserves a safe and caring home to live out its’ life. .
Saddlebred Rescue, Inc. does not pass judgment on any person or sect of people. We are here to help the horses. We understand the need for people to buy and sell horses and realize not all horses are suitable for riding or driving and not all people can afford to maintain them as companion horses. We are here to offer an alternative and strongly encourage all sellers to keep registration papers with the horse. |
